Back To STEUBEN
Veterans' Day
Nov 11, 2024 - 11:00am - Steuben County Fairgrounds, Bath, NY 14810

The observance originated in 1919 on the first anniversary of the 1918 armistice that ended World War I and was known as Armistice Day. It was commemorated in 1921 with the burial of an unknown soldier from World War I at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia.

November 11 became an official national holiday in the United States in 1938. In 1954 the name was changed to Veterans Day to honour those who had served in all U.S. wars.

It is common to observe two minutes of silence at 11:00 AM on November 11, the time and date of the World War I armistice in 1918.
