“America's Place in the World"2024-2025 marks the 200th anniversary of the Marquis De Lafayette's farewell tour to the United States of America. The close, personal friendship between Lafayette and George Washington mirrored the close affinity that the nascent United States felt towards France. Since declaring independence in 1776, the foreign relations of the United States has evolved and changed. America has gone from isolationist to the dominant world power in foreign affairs. Going forward, what do you see as America's role in the world? Should America do more to promote American values around the world or should America focus on domestic issues and take a back seat to international relations? Why should America pursue this route?Essay rules:1. Essay must be an original creation of the author and appropriately credit and cite sources.2. The contest is open to any graduating high school senior who is the child, grandchild, or great grandchild of a member of the Grand Lodge of New York Free & Accepted Masons who is in good standing or was at the time of their death, or a member of DeMolay, Organization of Triangles, Inc, or the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls in New York.3. Essays must be in English between 500-750 words, typed in Calibri or Times New Roman font, size 11 or 12, and double spaced. All essays should follow the conventions of formal academic tone and style.4. Your name should not appear inside the essay or in the header and footer.5. All entries must be submitted as a word document or a .pdf via the Grand Lodge Website by Midnight January 22, 20256.
