History
Constituted in 1954, Valley Stream Lodge No. 1143 was led by the Charter Master RW O. Herbert Johnson. He was the leader of a newly organized lodge in the jurisdiction of the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons in the State of New York having held meetings in the town of its lodge name, Valley Stream, New York.
Valley Stream Lodge No. 1143 had its home in 30 West Jamaica Avenue in Valley Stream, New York up until the late 1990’s when at that time, they moved to the Scottish Rite Building in Rockville Centre, New York, where they currently hold their meetings every 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of every month except July and August.
Historically, Valley Stream Lodge No. 1143 was known for their excellent ritual work, passionate brotherhood, and the ability to produce leaders within the lodge to support their district and jurisdiction. Valley Stream Lodge No. 1143 was able to manufacture 8 Grand Line Officers for the State of New York. RW O. Herbert Johnson (WM 1954), RW Armas Harold Nekton (WM 1960), RW H. John Shinn (WM 1973), RW George Peat (WM 1988), RW Raymond Klimpel (WM 1993 and 2004), RW Donald T. Kuhner (WM 1996), RW Joseph Van Syckle (WM 2007 and 2010), and RW Russell Schwager (WM 2009).
At the turn of the century, Valley Stream Lodge No. 1143 navigated through numerous challenges to uphold its love for the craft. Having led the lodge in 1993, RW Raymond Klimpel kept a steady momentum in 2004 and passed it on to W Francesco Scrivano who took the East for 2005 and 2006, and then gave way to RW Joseph Van Syckle, who led the lodge in 2007 and 2010 to maintain the same vision they had in the past. Together they pictured a strong lodge filled with commitment and pride for years to come.
In 2011, Valley Stream Lodge No. 1143 established a foundation of Worshipful Masters rich with philosophy and wisdom. W Jaime Perez (WM 2011), W Robert Foglietta (WM 2012), W Ralph Reale (WM 2013), W David Toron (WM 2014 and 2021), W Michael Toron (WM 2015), W Alan Oberstein (WM 2016), W Eric Malmut (WM 2017), W Mark Corrado (WM 2018), W Steven Perazzo (WM 2019), and W Robert Iorizzo (WM 2020). Without question, these fine men are all instrumental in the Past Masters circle to provide guidance and insight to the brethren to preserve the brotherly love the lodge is well known for.
Today, Valley Stream Lodge No. 1143 has 78 members, the eldest member being W George Watson (WM 1967) and led by their current Worshipful Master, W Edward Espinosa.
